2003 Game Summary

May 10, 2003 - D.C. Divas @ Columbus

The D.C. Divas traveled to Columbus May 10th to face the Flames. Although the Flames scored first, making this the first game where the D.C. Divas had to come from behind, their hopes for a win against the division-leading D.C. Divas were extinguished. The fledgling Flames scored early at 7 minutes into the game, but D.C. Divas running back Donna Wilkinson scored twice and completed the 2-point conversions to make the score 16-7.

In the second quarter the D.C. Divas scored again with their passing game. Quarterback Allyson Hamlin threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Nikki Williams. With the third successful 2-point conversion by Wilkinson, who continued play after breaking her pinky finger during the first quarter, the D.C. Divas had a comfortable lead at 24-7. With less than a minute left to play in the half, the Flames took advantage of a turnover when a Hamlin pass was intercepted. The Flames scored on the drive that followed to make the score 24-15 as the teams headed for the locker room.

During the second half both teams upped the score again. With 4:54 left in the game, the D.C. Divas scored with another 13-yard touchdown pass to Nikki Williams to make the score 30-15. The Flames scored again in the final minutes at the 1:55 mark to make the final score 30-22. The MVPs for the game were the offensive and defensive lines; the offensive line made it possible for the D.C. Divas to score big while the defensive line kept the Flames at bay.

The D.C. Divas, who have a record of 4-0 following this win, have a bye week on May 17th, and return home to face the Erie Illusion, whom they beat soundly 50-0 the first week of the season. That game will be at Eastern High School at 7:05 on May 24th.

The National Women's Football Association has 29 teams playing in 5 divisions. For additional information on the National Women's Football Association, please visit their website at www.womensfootballassociation.com or call (615) 860-4084.
