| McNair and Matthews win 2008 Pigskin Award Past winners include Wilkinson, Hamlin, Lucas, Tillman, Pecovsky, Williams and Hemlock Hundreds of guests continued their momentous innaugural week by attending the Pigskin Club gala just a few blocks from the White House. D.C. Divas Defensive Lineman Trigger McNair and Running Back Tiffany "Spaceghost" Matthews were recognized with the James Posey award given annually to the top professional football players in the metropolitan area. Matthews and McNair joined the list of awardees that included Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell and Super Bowl XVII MVP Doug Williams. McNair, a 10 year veteran, lead the Divas in sacks in 2008 and Matthews was the leading rusher and scorer. The
Pigskin Club of Washington is celebrating it's 71st year in 2009 and
the Divas are proud to be the first women to be recognized by the club
for their achievements on the field. Since 2003 the Pigskin Club has choosen
a female player of the year with Donna
"The Animal" Wilkinson being the first recipient. QB
Allyson Hamlin won in 2004, DB
Vickie Lucas in 2005, "Poison"
Ivy Tillman and Rachelle Pecovsky
in 2006 (when the club began to recognize an offensive and defensive winner)
and WR Nikki Williams and DB
Kathryn Hemlock in 2007. |
