| D.C. Divas vs Detroit Demolition The D.C. Divas Demolish Detroit 35-0 The Divas made history last Saturday by being the first team to ever beat the Detroit Demotion on their home field. The Demolition are one of the premier teams in women’s football, compiling a 65-3 record prior to this year, including the 2007 IWFL Championship. Last Saturday was not their night. The Divas totally dominated, winning 35-0 in a game that was called after the first half due to lightning. It was the first time that Divas head coach Keith Howard had met the legendary head coach of the Demolition, Tony Blankenship. Defensive back Alison Fischer led the scoring with an interception she ran back 25 yards for a touchdown. Kathryn Hemlock added the extra point. LaShawn Foust extended the lead to 13-0 with a four-yard run in the second quarter. The Divas defense and special teams gave the Divas excellent field position the entire game with multiple sacks, a fumble recovery by Tracy Cabugao and Noa Bruckenthal, and an interception by Kathryn Hemlock. Quarterback Allyson Hamlin threw two touchdown passes on the night with the first going to nine-year veteran Tara Kallal. The 19-yard strike was Kallal's first TD of the season and gave the Divas a 19-0 lead. Running back Okiima Pickett added a smashing three-yard plunge to give the Divas and followed with a two-point conversion run to extend the lead to 26-0. QB Allyson Hamlin recorded her second touchdown pass to end the first half when she hit Tara Stephenson on a 35 yard strike over the middle to make the score 33-0. Running back Rachelle Pecovsky-Bentley added the two-point conversion to seal a dominant first half and the 35-0 win. Coach Howard summed it up, “This was an important win against a first-class team.” |
