DIVAS WIN THE BATTLE OF THE BELTWAY 70-14
May 23, 2009

The D.C. Divas started the day with a tough defensive series followed by a 30 yard punt return by Kathryn Hemlock. Two plays later Running Back Okiima Pickett’s 2 yard run gave the Divas a 7-0 lead. Three of Pickett’s first 4 carries went for touchdowns. Her second saw her sprint 35 yards and Kathryn Hemlock added the extra point to put the Divas up 14-0. Wide Receiver Tara Stephenson added the 2 point run and the score was 22-6 Divas. The Divas fourth offensive possession was capped by a 12 yard catch and run from Wide Receiver Tara Kallal which made it 29-6. Kathryn Hemlock kicked the extra point and then on the next series intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards to set up Running Back LaShawn Foust whose 12 yard run gave the Divas a 36-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Divas would score on 8 of their first 9 possessions of the game.

Quarterback Allyson Hamlin added the first tally of the second quarter with a 17 yard scramble and a 42-7 lead. Hamlin then threw her second touchdown of the game with a 40 yard strike to Wide Receiver Tara Stephenson and it was 49-6. The final score of the first half was another great effort by the offensive line and Running Back Tiffany Matthews. Her 20 yard touchdown run along with the extra point by Kathryn Hemlock gave the Divas 56 points which sets a team record for the most points scored in one half in the team’s 9 year history. Hemlock added to the second half scoring with an electrifying 50 yard punt return to make it 63-6 Divas.

The Divas defense was strong all night with 3 interceptions and a defensive stand that lead to a muffed punt by the Nighthawks as the 3rd quarter came to an end. The Divas offense took the ball at the 2 yard line and Running Back Rachelle Pecovsky punched it in to put the Divas up 70-6.
