From the Coach... 03/22/08

Head Coach Ezra Cooper

Spring is right around the corner! And as March gets into full swing so are your D.C. Divas. We had an excellent off season. Our roster has grown by leaps and bounds. We have somehow managed to add both depth and quality again in 2008. Most coaches are happy if they get one or the other; we are ecstatic to have received both. We are looking for great contributions from our rookies as usual. If the scrimmage with Central PA over the weekend is any indication, our position coaches have their hands full filling the roster for our first game. #36 Becky Snow, #3 Cherre Marshall, and #90 Melanie George will provide instant help to a veteran tuff nosed defense. On Offense, #83 Shara McNeill, #2 Latisha Perry-Guinn, and #53 Becky Worsham will all contribute immediately. The pre-season has progressed according to schedule, and by mid March we are right where we need to be.

It is with a heavy heart that we turn towards the start of the season. In early February our long-time trainer and dear friend passed away. Nate “Daddy Nat” Randolph was more than a physical trainer for the D.C. Divas. He was more than a father figure to our players. He was a teammate and family member. The manner in which he cared about, and for, the D.C. Divas was just a small part of the greatness that emanated from within him. To me he was and always will be FAMILY. His presence will be irreplaceable, his expertise and kindness will be missed, and his smile and laughter will echo with me forever.

It is in times like these, when faced with adversity, that teams must show strength of faith, strength of unity, and strength of character. So, it is with a new sense of purpose I re-dedicate my time and effort for 2008. Mr. Randolph we are dedicating our season to you--for every life you have touched, for every player you have helped (on and off of the field), for every kind and encouraging word you have given me throughout the years. Know that they have touched and inspired me in ways that I can never fully explain or express. I can only hope that wherever you are, any success or happiness we achieve as a team can be shared, and that you are watching over us, as usual, with a prideful and protective eye. We miss you. We love you. And this one’s for you…

Sincerely,

Ezra M. Cooper Jr., Head Coach
