From the Coach... 04/16/08

Head Coach Ezra Cooper

WHOA! I wish I could say that I didn’t completely see that coming. I wish that our team could have pushed through and pulled it out at the end. Unfortunately neither of those things would be true. Boston was truly the better team Saturday and earned every yard and point they accumulated. It was a great game to be a part of. The game came down to a pivotal play on defense late in the fourth quarter. The Divas were trying to mount a comeback and needed a stop badly. Although questionable, the defense encroached the line of scrimmage and the subsequent 5 yard penalty gave Boston the first down it needed to help seal the victory. My hat goes off to the entire Boston Militia Coaching Staff and Players. However, I could not end this without mentioning the outstanding individual efforts of Mia Brickhouse #18, Allison Cahill #7, and Jay Hodge #80. This team is young, talented, and hungry. With Coach Beasly leading the way, the Militia proved more than the Divas could handle.

As we look towards the rest of the season, our team is at a cross roads. We haven’t played with any intensity or enthusiasm since the Detroit win last year. And to make matters worse the pressure is on. After this weekend, I am hoping the feeling of embarrassment will propel us into better attendance and intensity in practice. Not even I believed that we would win all of our regular season games forever, but to lose a heartbreaker in Boston questions our character as a team and coaching staff. Good teams RESPOND, and bad teams blame each other. We have 2 weeks to figure out what kind of team we want to be. Baltimore is going to be feeling a lot like Boston. They want a piece of us real BAD. After our horrid display in Boston, I am sure they are licking their chops to get at us. They are coming down to us no matter what. The question is what are we going to do about it?

Sincerely,

Ezra M. Cooper Jr., Head Coach
