D.C. Divas Crush Connecticut

Playing in their first ever playoff game, the Mid-Atlantic Division champions’ D.C. Divas continued a remarkable season with a 76-0 thrashing of the Connecticut Crush. In front of a raucous home crowd, the D.C. Divas’ defense recorded their 4th shutout of the year. Linebacker Sharina Western was named the defensive MVP for the second time this year after becoming a starter just 4 weeks ago. Her 47-yard interception return was part of a D.C. Divas’ attack that went over the 70-point mark for the second time this season. The offense returned to its early season prowess by racking up 451 total yards. QB Allyson Hamlin encouraged her teammates to "Lose themselves in the moment." She did just that with a performance of 7-out-of-11 completions for 141 yard and 3-touchdowns in only one half of play. Offensive MVP Monica Livingston led the rushing attack with 126 yards and a touchdown. League-leading rusher Donna "the Animal" Wilkinson added 47 yards and 3 touchdowns while LaShawn Foust continued her impressive hard-nosed running with 76 yards on 14 carries. The D.C. Divas punished the Crush with 310 yards on the ground. “When we run our Stud (wishbone) backfield and we do it right, I don't think we can lose," said D.C. Divas Head coach Ezra Cooper. “I really like the way our defense is stepping up, and I look forward to the return of some of our veterans. We all remember what our next opponent did to us in year one.”

The D.C. Divas will travel to Philadelphia on July 12th to take on the Phoenix, who defeated the D.C. Divas 40-0 during the inaugural 2001 season. The loss is the worst in D.C. Divas’ history. The game is a semifinal matchup on the road to the Championship game on August 2nd in Nashville, TN. The conference championship will be held in Detroit or Cleveland on July 26th.
