PRESS RELEASE
D.C. DIVAS DON'T GET CAUGHT IN THE throws of Passion! The D.C. Divas and the Pittsburgh Passion came into this heated match-up with undefeated records. But it was the D.C. Divas’ defense that shutout the potent Passion’s offense for three quarters in route to a 28-14 victory. The win rewards the D.C. Divas with first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division and a 6-0 record while the Passion dropped to 4-1. Cornerback Kathryn Hemlock was named the Defensive MVP after a two-interception and six-tackle performance. The D.C. Divas have had four shutouts in six games and have held the opposition to only 28 points. Offensively the D.C. Divas were on fire under the leadership of QB Allyson Hamlin. Hamlin’s record passing day of 343 yards set the mark for most passing yards in the D.C. Divas’ four-year history. "It's a great night to be a Diva," said Hamlin. "The defense was great and we were able to get on them early. We will have a tough one on our hands in two weeks when they come to our place." (June 5th, 6PM @ Eastern High School) Hamlin was 19-of-38 with 7 of those completions going to the Offensive MVP Nikki Williams, a wide receiver who caught Hamlin's only touchdown pass of 40 yards. Williams set a single game franchise record for receiving with 164 yards. Wide receiver Vickie Lucas added 7 catches for 94 yards and was one of 8 D. C. Divas to catch a pass. The D.C. Divas used a hurry-up offense in their second possession of the game and ran off an 8-play, 76-yard drive that produced a Donna "the Animal" Wilkinson 3-yard touchdown run. "The Animal" has a team leading 14 touchdowns and has amassed 710 rushing yards in the team's 6 victories. The D.C. Divas have outscored their opponents 274 to 28 this season. The D.C. Divas will be making an appearance at the Washington Mystics-L.A. Sparks’ WNBA game on Tuesday, May 25th to spread the word about Washington's ONLY playoff football team. The team resumes training on Wednesday May 26th as they prepare for their next game on June 5th. The D.C. Divas will finish out the regular season with home games on June 5th and 12th. D.C. Divas’ games begin at 6PM at Eastern High School and feature Metro access and FREE onsite parking. D.C. Divas’ practices are open to the media and can be coordinated by calling Rich Daniel at 301-573-4260. For more information on the D.C. Divas, go to www.dcdivas.com. |
