D.C. DIVAS CLINCH TOP PLAYOFF SEED
Baltimore gets Burned 52-16

You can’t stand up in a crowded stadium and yell “BURN!” It’s illegal at Eastern High School, home of the 2004 Mid-Atlantic division champion D.C. Divas. For the first time in the 4-year history of the NWFA’s best rivalry, the D.C. Divas swept their archrivals from Baltimore as well as amassing the largest margin of victory in the series. The 36-point win was just what the D.C. Divas needed to secure the top seed in the Northern Conference and assure themselves home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The D.C. Divas will begin their quest for the championship on July 10th versus an opponent not yet decided.

Quarterback Allyson Hamlin continued her impressive play of late with a 3-touchdown (11-21 174 yd) performance. Hamlin rallied the D.C. Divas, who trailed 8-0 for the first time this season, and lead the D.C. Divas to 52 unanswered points. Throwing for 10 touchdowns, Hamlin has been on fire the last 3 weeks. WR Tara Kallal had 3 catches for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Donna Wilkinson had a physical running day that produced 64 yards and 2 touchdowns. “The Animal”, Wilkinson, has rushed for 2,076 yards in the last two seasons (18 games) with the D.C. Divas going 16-2 during that span.

Defensively, the D.C. Divas finished the regular season with 4 shutouts. They are currently the #2 ranked defense in the league behind two-time defending champion Detroit Demolition. “We have worked to hard to let this satisfy us. We still have our sights set on a bigger prize,” said Head Coach Ezra Cooper. Now in his fourth season, Cooper has the distinction of leading two teams into the playoffs. This is something no other professional football team has done locally in this decade.

The D.C. Divas will only study game film this coming week. Once the practice schedule is set for the following weeks we will update you. The D.C. Divas wish to thank you for your interest in them this season and hope to see you during the championship run.
