The D.C. Divas, Washington’s all women, full contact football team, are set to defend their first ever championship against fresh competition. Beginning with the 2007 season the Divas will play in the Independent Women’s Football League. Founded in 2000, the IWFL is an international women’s tackle football organization, represented in 34 different markets across the United States and Canada.

“The D.C. Divas welcome the opportunity to take on new and exciting opponents,” said team General Manager Rich Daniel. “We have a goal of becoming the first team in women's football history to win a championship in both leagues.”

The Divas will play in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the IWFL’s Eastern Conference. The Mid-Atlantic Division features an established team in the Detroit Predators, as well as an expansion franchise, the Cape Fear Thunder. The Eastern Conference boasts such perennial powerhouses as the New York Sharks, as well as the defending IWFL Champion Atlanta Xplosion.

The Prince George’s County Sports and Learning Complex, conveniently located adjacent to FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, will once again host all Diva home games. The Divas quest for back-to-back championships kicks-off on April 28th, 2007, at home against the New England Intensity.
