DETERMINED DIVA'S: WASHINGTON'S CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL TEAM INTENSIFIES
PREPARATIONS FOR UPCOMING SEASON
In 2007 the D.C. Divas will attempt to accomplish an
unparalleled feat: back-to-back championships in two completely different
leagues. Several successful seasons in the National Women’s Football
Association culminated in a 2006 NWFA Championship, the first title in
franchise history. This year, however, the Divas begin play in the Independent
Women’s Football League, (IWFL).
“No one is more proud of our accomplishments than I am, but 2006
is over,” said Head Coach Ezra Cooper. “Again, in 2007, we
have set our sights high. I will do everything in my power to meet them.”
General Manager Rich Daniel echoed that sentiment. “We are excited
by the prospect of playing some of the best teams in the world. Our fans
will see some great football this spring.”
Founded in 2000, the IWFL is an international women’s tackle football
organization, represented in 34 different markets across the United States
and Canada.
The Divas quest for back-to-back championships kicks-off April 28th, 2007,
against the New England Intensity at the Prince George’s County
Sports & Learning Complex. Season tickets are available on-line through
the team website, http://www.dcdivas.com.
Practices leading up to the season opener will be held at Sasser Field,
14201 School Lane, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Sasser Field is adjacent
to the P.G. County Board of Education Building.
Practice Schedule: Saturday, April 14th, 2007, noon -2:30pm
Tuesday, April 17th, 2007, 7:30pm-9:30pm
Thursday, April 19th, 2007, 7:30pm-9:30pm
Saturday, April 21st, 2007, 10am-12pm
Tuesday, April 24th, 2007, 7:30pm-9:30pm
Thursday, April 26th, 2007, 7:30pm-9:30pm
The Divas are comprised of women of varied professional and athletic backgrounds
from all over the Washington metropolitan area. Together, these brave
pioneers continue to shatter traditional sports stereotypes, while advancing
athletic opportunities for women everywhere.
