Recap vs. Massachusetts Mutiny – June 2, 2001

Mutiny Edge D.C. Divas Again, 12-0
Massachusetts 12, DC 0
By Neal Rozendaal

Washington, DC – The Massachusetts Mutiny once again prevailed over the D.C. Divas by a slim margin, shutting them out by a 12-0 score. The rematch between these two teams was similar to the first contest, with the Massachusetts defense keeping the Divas offense off the scoreboard and the Mutiny offense mustering up just enough points for a victory.

The Divas (2-3) suffered their second shutout loss of the season. The D.C. offense was hampered by an injury to their star fullback, Donna Wilkinson, who broke her left thumb during the game.

The Mutiny (5-1) are currently in second place in the NWFL’s Northern Conference behind the Philadelphia Liberty Belles. The Divas held the Mutiny to just two touchdowns for the second straight meeting, joining the Liberty Belles as the only team to hold Massachusetts to less than 14 points in a game this season.

After a bye week, the Divas will host the league-leading, undefeated Liberty Belles at Eastern High School on June 16. The Divas are eager to avenge their 40-0 defeat in Philadelphia earlier in the year.
