Largo, MD – Last night in front of 2,101 fans, the two-time defending division champion D.C. Divas had a new field, a new owner, and a new starting quarterback. But ultimately, the game produced the same result, as the Divas extended their regular season winning streak to 17 games with an 18-0 victory over the Cleveland Fusion.

Thanks to an injury to starting quarterback Allyson Hamlin, Amy Britton got her first career start at quarterback. Britton earned offensive MVP honors with a steady seven of ten passing effort for 77 yards. Britton was supported by a strong running game featuring Donna Wilkinson, who scored a touchdown and ran for 131 yards.

The Divas (1-0) moved their home field this offseason from Eastern High School in DC to Largo High School in suburban Maryland. The Divas’ defense helped make the Divas’ Maryland debut a successful one. The Fusion (0-1) were only able to muster 83 yards of offense and just ten yards rushing. Defensive MVP Subrena Rivers led the defense with three sacks and 6.5 tackles.

New owner Paul Hamlin was proud of the opening night display. “I think the ladies really enjoyed the evening, and they proved they have what it takes to be a champion,” Hamlin said. “We look forward to our next home game on May 14.”

The Divas will travel to Pittsburgh to take on their archrivals, the Pittsburgh Passion, on Saturday. Then they will have two bye weeks before returning to action on May 14 when they host the Tidewater Floods.
