D.C. Divas Fall Victim to the Sharks, 19-13

New York, NY – The D.C. Divas took to the road to face the New York Sharks in Brooklyn, New York. After a hard-fought battle, the Sharks emerged with a narrow 19-13 victory.

The Divas (1-1) struck first. On their second possession of the game, the Divas mounted a 13-play drive that featured ten running plays. The final play of the drive was a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kathryn Hemlock to Tara Stephenson. Hemlock then kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 Divas. But the Sharks (2-0) finished the first half with two touchdown drives of their own to take a 13-7 lead at intermission.

The Divas began the second half with another impressive, 14-play drive that featured 13 rushes, capped by a four-yard run for a touchdown. The extra point was wide, and the score was tied at 13.

The game continued to bounce back and forth until the final two minutes, when Sharks quarterback Karen Mulligan plunged in from two yards out to put the Sharks ahead, 19-13. The Divas took the ensuing kickoff and marched down the field deep into New York territory. The Divas faced a fourth and goal on the four-yard line. A possible game-winning touchdown pass was broken up in the end zone, giving the Sharks a hard-fought 19-13 win.

The Divas next travel to Philadelphia to take on the Firebirds on April 24 at 6 PM.
