Recap vs. Central Maryland Seahawks – April 25, 2015
Divas Hit Century Mark in Win over Central Maryland
DC 1, Central Maryland 0
By Neal Rozendaal
Washington, DC – It’s not the way the D.C. Divas wanted to get there, but it’s a historic victory nonetheless.
The D.C. Divas became the fifth women’s football team ever to reach 100 victories with a forfeit victory over the Central Maryland Seahawks. It’s an unusual occurrence for the Divas – of their 100 victories, only three have been by forfeit.
The D.C. Divas (2-0) are just the fifth team to reach the century mark in all-time wins. The Sacramento Sirens, Dallas Diamonds, and New York Sharks have all secured 100 victories in their franchise histories, although the Diamonds folded in 2013. Last week, the Chicago Force became the fourth women’s football team with 100 overall victories and the first to do so in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), the premier league in women’s football. With the victory over Central Maryland, the D.C. Divas now stand right behind Chicago on that list.
The Central Maryland Seahawks (0-3) played their first two games this season, shutout losses to the Cleveland Fusion and Boston Renegades. The Divas won a hard-fought game against the Seahawks in Baltimore in 2013 by a 40-0 score, but the Seahawks have now forfeited on the Divas for the second year in a row.
The Divas will return to action on May 2 on the road against their archrivals, the Boston Renegades. The home opener for the Divas will now be held on May 16 against the Columbus Comets.
