D.C. Divas Release Divas Rap
July 24, 2002 – Many of us have watched the VH-1 Divas and know that there are divas in the music industry. But now, a group of women football players are going to show that there are Divas in women’s sports as well.
After watching the VH-1 Divas, NWFL founder and CEO Catherine Masters contacted the D.C. Divas, one of the teams in the NWFL, and suggested that the team come up with a rap song to showcase the Divas in women’s sports. Kelly George and Leah Fahringer, owners of the D.C. Divas, thought the idea was a great opportunity to promote the team and asked the team to write and produce the song. The results were nothing short of a number one hit!
Masters and her staff were so impressed with the team’s efforts that she suggested they perform the song at halftime during the 2002 NWFL National Championship Game. Copies of the song, “Divas Rap,” will be available for sale both at the game and online at the league’s and team’s websites.
The Divas who will participate at the 2002 NWFL National Championship Game are Tara Kallal, Amy Stenson, Alison Fischer, Monica Livingston, Brooke Hargrove, M’Bwende Anderson, and Coach Ezra Cooper. The game, sponsored by Essere, will take place Saturday, July 27, at Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.
“The women in our league are a very talented group…not only on the football field but in many other areas,” said NWFL Vice President Rosylyn Rhee. “We think the ‘Divas Rap’ is a wonderful way to generate more interest in the D.C. Divas team and the National Women’s Football League.”
