2003 Pigskin Club Posey Award
D.C. Divas running back Donna Wilkinson has been selected as the first female winner of the 2003 Pigskin Club John W. Posey Award. The Posey Award recognizes the best football player in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. The award was presented at their 66th Annual Awards Dinner at the Capital Hilton Hotel on Friday, January 9, 2004.
Wilkinson was chosen for her outstanding play and contribution to the Mid-Atlantic champion D.C. Divas football team. She was a three-year veteran with the D.C. Divas, running 1,267 yards and 13 touchdowns in the 2003 season. Wilkinson was also a team captain and on the 2003 National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) All-Star team. “Having one of our players win this award is very exciting for women’s football,” stated Debby Lening, Vice President of the NWFA. “We are very proud of Donna and are looking forward to a great season for her this year,” Lening added.
The Pigskin Club of Washington, DC, is one of the oldest sports organizations in the United States. Every year for the past sixty years, they have recognized and honored coaches and athletes from all levels of competition and those who have made significant contributions in the business and civic arenas.
