2013 Pigskin Club Posey Award

Linebacker Missy Bedwell and quarterback Allyson Hamlin were announced as the winners of the 2013 Posey Award, sponsored by the Pigskin Club of Washington, DC.

Missy Bedwell celebrated her 15th season in women’s football in 2013, having played for six different teams since starting her career in 1999. Bedwell has played for the Divas since 2010 and plays several vital but overlooked positions, such as long snapper on special teams. Defensively, Missy Bedwell ranked second on the Divas in 2013 in tackles for loss while playing the linebacker position.

Allyson Hamlin has won 75 games in her 11-year career as a starting quarterback, the most in women’s football history. In 2013, Hamlin had a typically terrific season, placing fourth in women’s football with 1,924 passing yards and fifth with 25 passing touchdowns. Allyson Hamlin becomes the first offensive women’s football player to win two Posey Awards, as she was awarded the Posey Award nine years ago in 2004.

Since 2003, the Pigskin Club has annually awarded the Posey Award to outstanding women’s football players in the Washington, DC, region. The Pigskin Club will have their annual awards ceremony at Howard University on January 25, 2014.
