2014 White House Easter Egg Roll

For the second straight year, several members of the D.C. Divas were invited to the White House to participate in the annual Easter Egg Roll. The event, which was supported by the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition (PCFSN), attracted more than 30,000 people to the White House South Lawn on April 21, 2014.

In addition to the traditional egg roll, visitors enjoyed games and activities designed to help educate families on smart ways to incorporate healthy eating and exercise into their daily routines. Members of the Divas helped patrol the “Eggtivity Zone,” a large obstacle course for kids, on the South Lawn.

Several members of the D.C. Divas got to take a tour inside of the White House during the day. Divas players got to meet and greet Washington Redskins standouts Robert Griffin III, Ryan Kerrigan, Stephen Bowen, and Pierre Garcon, as well as former Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney of the San Diego Chargers, Charles Tillman of the Chicago Bears, and several other NFL stars. Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams and 20-game winner Gio Gonzalez were among many non-football athletes in attendance.

Also making an appearance near the “Eggtivity Zone” were politicians like White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough and First Lady Michelle Obama, who was promoting her “Let’s Move!” initiative. When First Lady Obama saw the Divas players, she told them that she knew exactly who the D.C. Divas were and thanked them for being role models to women. The Divas want to thank the PCFSN for allowing us to take part in this wonderful event.
