Caroline Duckworth Q&A
Who was your childhood idol? Why?
Any female athlete that was out there making a name for herself…women like Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Rebecca Lobo, Lisa Leslie, Monica Seles, The Williams Sisters, and Kim Zmeskal.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Kicking the winning penalty kick in my first D2 Women’s Rugby National Championship game. I was playing with the Raleigh Venom women’s rugby team, and we won back-to-back D2 National Championships.
What was your biggest adjustment to playing women’s football?
Playing with the pads and helmet. In rugby, you don’t have any of the protective gear. It’s just an all-out, full-contact sport. I’m worried that all the gear will slow me down.
If you could play any other position, which one would you choose? Why?
I would probably choose quarterback if I had enough experience to play. Every other sport I have played, I have been in the quarterback-type of position. I can read the playing field well and make quick and smart decisions. However, I am up for playing most positions. I’m very versatile.
Why do you play women’s tackle football?
I played rugby for ten years and decided to retire about a year and a half ago. I missed the competition and team atmosphere. I thought I would try something new.
