Christiana Burton Q&A
Who was your childhood idol? Why?
My dad…he’s always been right there to support me, no matter what – from my first baby pageant, to ballet, to training for body building competitions, and now football. This is the same man who gave me his weightlifting straps from 1989 when I decided to do physique competitions, to assist me with my grip when I was lifting heavier weights. |
Who is your biggest supporter?
My parents…no matter what I do or why I choose to do it, they either join the journey from the start or whatever I’m doing grows on them. |
Who is your female sports idol?
The Border City Roller Girls in Yuma, AZ…these women had a passion for roller derby, and I wish I could have been part of their team for longer than I was. They were my first teammates, and I pray I make them proud. |
Who is your favorite NFL player? Why?
Barry Sanders…he was explosive and could break through the defensive line to gain some big yards. |
What are your favorite hobbies or special interests?
Going to the gym and spending time with my boys…they’re the coolest people I know! |
What is your favorite travel location?
The Maldives would be great…however, my ideal travel location is anywhere there’s a clear panoramic view of the sunrise and sunset, so I can wake up, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and watch God’s creation rise and set. |
What is your favorite food?
Sushi and cheeseburgers. |
Who is your favorite musician or group?
Anthony Hamilton, India Arie, and Ledisi. |
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Driven, charismatic, loving. |
What are your lifetime aspirations?
To become a nutritionist or athletic trainer, and to run a non-profit organization for young girls (in honor of my godsister who passed in December 2015). |
What was the first sport you ever played?
Track. |
How did you hear about women’s football?
I was invited to try out by two veteran players. I’m honored that they thought I’d be good enough to play on the team. |
Why do you want to play women’s football?
It’s therapeutic! |
What does it mean to you to be a D.C. Diva?
It means everything! It means strength, determination, heart, and passion for the game. It means another opportunity to be part of a band of sisters…it is epic. |
