Elise Pittman Q&A
Who was your childhood idol? Why?
Juliette Low…for those who do not know, this amazing woman was the founder of the Girl Scouts. She created the group to give young women the opportunity to develop skill sets that at the time only men could do. She believed in community service, being independent, and self-reliance, and she encouraged girls to participate in sports. |
Who is your biggest supporter?
My mother…she has always been there for me, no matter what I was involved in: Girl Scouts, dance, baton twirling, and now football. She drove me to countless lessons and competitions and supported me at every home football game at the University of Maryland when I twirled in college (even in rain, snow and freezing cold). She even drove over an hour on several occasions to watch me play flag football. Most importantly, she has always believed in me! |
What are your favorite hobbies or special interests?
Traveling, snowboarding, rock climbing, camping, hiking, and teaching baton. |
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Tenacious, sincere, spirited. |
What was the first sport you ever played?
It’s not the first sport I ever played, but the first sport I ever fell in love with was baton twirling. I twirled competitively for 14 years, nine years with the Wheaton Dance Twirl Teams. Throughout those 14 years, I won several regional, national, and world titles, including Miss Majorette of America twice. I was a member of Team USA, winning two gold medals at the World Baton Twirling Championships in 2003 and 2006. |
What teammate best embodies the Divas spirit?
I think to really capture the Divas spirit, you have to put the whole team together. Each individual player brings something important to field, but together we make up that D.C. Divas spirit! |
