Savannah Felix Q&A

Who was your childhood idol? Why?
Michael Jordan…I wore his shoes all day every day and was seriously convinced that it made me a little bit more like him on the court. My nerdy idol was Rosalind Franklin…she was the real founder of the DNA structure.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My mom and my grandmother…they raised me and believed in me every step of the way.
If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose? Why?
Angela Davis…she is brilliant.
Who is your female sports idol?
Allyson Felix…we’re related! (Not really.)  I became a fan of hers during the Summer Olympics. She’s fast!
Who is your favorite NFL player? Why?
Ray Lewis…he is a beast.
What are your favorite hobbies or special interests?
Music. Making it. Listening to it. Building my collection.
What is your favorite food?
Hummus.
What is your favorite book?
My AP English teacher in high school told us to read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse once a year because it would allow us to reflect on our growth, center ourselves in the present, and help us prepare for our futures. I’ve tried to do it every year, and it has become my favorite book.
Who is your favorite artist?
Andy Warhol.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Passionate, loyal, outgoing.
What are your lifetime aspirations?
In the next five years, I’d like to go to school for a JD/MSW degree and then move to the policy side of Juvenile Justice Reform.
What was the first sport you ever played?
Basketball.
What is your favorite sports memory?
I played for the Chicago Force in 2008 and 2009, and my favorite sports memory is when we went to the 2008 IWFL championship game.
How did you hear about women’s football?
After a long night of studying for finals in college, I told someone, “I’m tired of studying. All I want to do is be a football player, but I can’t because I have boobs.” They replied, “Whoa, whoa, whoa!  You can totally play football. Let’s look it up.” Moments later, we found the Chicago Force. I tried out and had the time of my life.
If you could play any position other than your own, which one would you choose? Why?
The wide receiver position has always been my favorite. As a kid, we’d all fight over being wide receivers. Honestly, it is just fun to run and catch the ball. Of course, on this level, I don’t have the skills to be a wide receiver, but for pick-up games, I love it.
Which teammate best embodies Divas spirit?
I haven’t gotten to know everyone yet, but I’d say Smallz (Becky Worsham). She is a genuinely caring person and can probably knock some people out.
Why do you want to play women’s football?
I love the game, the family that is created, and challenging myself mentally and physically.
What does it mean to you to be a D.C. Diva?
Dedicated. Relentless. Focused.
